I have to admit that at first I was a bit uncertain about being present at this particular tournament. The tournament was very small in size. It had less than 100 competitors. However, it had some of the Best Old School Judges from this area and that made it very exciting. As the events unfolded the action exploded and this tournament proved to be nothing but action packed! We’ll definitely be there next year! Let me also say this: “This is the first time that I’ve been able to sit on the bleachers and be worried-free. I was 100% confident of our “Wolf Pack-Hound” team

So these are the highlights of the tournament:

1) Alaina Spears is now a “Junior Grand-Champion!” She competed against all the athletes who had won 1st places and she beat them all. This win was not like any other and I’m sure she will always remember it. This young lady was so much overwhelmed with joy that she literally cried of happiness. This was a very special moment that I also will remember for a very long time.

2) Breyona Whittaker: All I can say is watch out for her “Hook-Kick.” Breyona did an amazing hook-kick making my jab drop wide open…it was awesome! Breyona likes to train hard and that hard training is sure paying off when it counts.

3) Teress Dobie: Blew her competition away in weapons…simple as that.

4) Sydnee Brown in the house! Sydnee Brown stood her ground and won two second places. I know Sydnee can’t wait to get a big trophy. She just needs to get a bit older and she’ll be winning plenty. I’m so proud of Sydnee…way to go sweetie!

5) Camauri McPherson: He is my dark-horse/my shadow warrior. Camauri comes out from the shadows and takes away the win. This young man was in a 3 man tie for 1st place. I looked at Camauri’s aunt and told her “I got this.” I walked down to the arena and told Camauri what to do. He did it and won 1st place in kata. Senior black belts came to the stand and congratulated him. It was a sweet win…so proud of this young man!

6) Treshaun Whittaker: Took First Place in Fighting…it was just that simple. I was happy with his win because it was drama free. However, in two weeks I’m pretty sure there will be drama in Hampton when he faces, his rival who happens to be a black belt…the drama will unfold then!

7) Caevyon Askew: This is his second win in weapons. This young man was tied for second and won a decisive decision from the judges winning first! I’m very confident he’ll do well at the Hampton tournament as well.

**Let me Thank Little Brian for coming to the tournament and staying with us the entire time. Little Brian cannot wait to be in the arena and compete with everyone else again. I cannot wait to see Little Brian in Action! Also, Michael and his family came to support us. Mr. Whitaker was in the middle of all the action taking pictures. They too stayed through the entire tournament…thank you for your continuous support.

***I was so pleased however, to see the amount of support from Alaina/Teress’ family. There were aunts, uncles, brothers, sisters, grandparents, friends and babies and neighbors…the list was long and beautiful.

This Tournament was full of praises from the audience, from Old School instructors and Junior Senseis. People were waiting out in the parking lot trying to figure out who was the Sensei who is training such a high caliber of students.

So now The Dojo has an AAU National Champion, Teress Dobie and an US Open Grand-Champion, Alaina Spears. What does these two ladies have in common? They are both sisters.

Thank you parents for making sure every student trains hard for Tournament Training and Championship Training. This would never be possible without your full support…thank you guys!

Congratulations Everyone…You’re getting the recognition you well deserve.

Next Tournament: Sunday 10/1

Location: Bethel High School, Hampton
