Another WIN for The Dojo! Our students are leading the pack…they are for sure the tip of the spear. They competed against some of the top dojos in the area: Master Hill’s “Red Dragon” in Chesapeake Square Mall, Dragon Force in VA Beach, Welch’s Okinawan Karate-Do from Washington, DC, Virginia Beach Goju-Ryu, Rodney Chesseman’s MMA Studio from Hampton, Golden Sun Dojo from Hampton and others.

Again, I was 100% confident of our “Wolf Pack Team” and sat on the bleachers watching the action unfold!

So these are the highlights of the tournament:

1) Alaina Spears is now a second time “Junior Grand-Champion!” She competed against the best athletes (including her sister, Teress) and came out with the win. The Dojo had a total of 4 students compete for the Grand-Championship: Alaina Spears, Teress Dobbie, Breyona Whittaker and Caevyon Askew. As a matter of fact Breyona ended up getting a higher score than a black belt. That is how sharp and good our students are in the competition arena.

2) Teress Dobbie: Is the “Serena Williams” of Karate. Teress, competed in the weapons’ division against ALL boys and beat them all! Then in the Kata division she beat everyone again, boys and girls. For the sparring division everyone left...they were no match for this young “Super Star.”

3)Breyona Whittaker: She sure does not say much but can execute a mean kata. I was working with her today and she is getting even better. She definitely wants to win at the AAU competition in November…the 1st leg of the Triple Crown.

4) Sydnee Brown in the house! Sydnee Brown stood her ground and won 1st place in the sparring division. Sydnee finally won her big trophy…I knew she could do it!

3) Camauri McPherson: My Shadow Warrior…this young man was competing against the best in the weapons division and took 1st place. Camauri is small in size but don’t let that fool you. This young man has won 3 consecutive wins in the weapons’ division.

4) Treshaun Whittaker: Took First Place in Fighting and 2nd place in weapons. However, I have a strong feeling he might just win 1st place at the AAU tournament. He was looking sharp today and I know he is hungry for that win.

5) Caevyon Askew: This is his 3rd win in weapons. I knew he was going to do well…he smoked his competition.

**Let me Thank Little Brian, again, for coming to the tournament and staying with us the entire time. Little Brian, finally, will be competing in 6 weeks at the AAU tournament in Richmond…he’s putting in the work…let’s see how he does!

***I was again pleased to see the amount of support from family members. Alaina/Teress’ aunts were there and little Mason wanted a piece of the competition. Little Mason was inside his stroller kicking and punching…he was kung-fu fighting. Treshaun/Breyona’s grandmother was there for the first time. I was happy she was there to see her grand kids compete. Also their aunts were there as well…it was definitely a full house of support.

Again, this Tournament was full of praises from the audience, from Old School instructors and Senseis. Master Hill kept it short and sweet, he said “Keep doing what you’re doing.” So many instructors and parents congratulated us…we definitely left a huge mark at this event. The Dojo won a total of 11 first place trophies plus the “Jr. Grand Championship” our students were AWESOME!

For me personally there were 5 moments that were very special:

1) Seen everyone win 1st place in weapons (Mind you, Treshaun got 2nd only because Camauri won 1st so they swept that division.)

2) Seen Teress perform “Seiyunchin” and win! That win to me meant everything…she had those judges at the edge of their seat and they could not get enough!

3) Wondering, what Mrs. Terre Rivera was thinking while both of her daughters were competing for the Grand Championship Title. Mrs. Rivera kept going back and forth checking the judges’ score cards…the suspense was nerve wracking.

4) Having Sensei Monique walk over to Alaina & Teress and congratulate them in their winnings. Sensei Monique even posed for a picture with the girls.

5) Having the judges in disbelief that our students are performing Goju-Ryu Karate. The judges were dumbfounded watching the beautiful Goju-Ryu katas that my students performed. Watching the shock/surprise look on their faces just made me smile…it was divine!

Thank you parents for making sure every student trains hard for Tournament Training and Championship Training. This would never be possible without your full support…thank you guys!

Congratulations Everyone…You guys are the Very BEST!

Next Tournament: Saturday 11/18

Location: Heritage High School, Henrico, VA
