Highlights of this event were the following:

Alaina Spears is “FEARLESS!” Alaina had no little girls in her division so they moved her to the 11-12 years old division. Guess, what? She still beat them. Alaina might be tiny in size but inside of her resides a powerful “Mighty” giant. Alaina’s special talents are: she is focus, fearless and determined to win.

I was able to watch an amazing performance between Treshaun and Camauri. These two super stars battled it out on the floor performing the same kata “Kururunfa.” Their movements were crisp, sharp, powerful and all in sync. It was a beautiful and powerful performance by both of them.

I always say this young man brings nothing but drama to every tournament we go to…I’m talking about “Treshaun.” I swear they are probably going to band us from participating due to Treshaun. There was one knuckle head parent talking trash about Treshaun, saying “Michael, don’t worry about him son. All he knows is one kick, the side kick.” He kept saying it and saying it, over and over. Well, Treshaun got sick of hearing it and so did I. All I saw was Michael’s body on the floor, not once, not twice but three times…back to back to back. Treshaun whopped Michael’s butt so bad that Michael’s father threw in the towel.

After that performance Treshaun gets recruited to compete in the team sparring competition. Every point, awarded to the team, was scored by Treshaun. No doubt Treshaun is a fighting machine. This young man was worn to be a fighter.

For this competition we came out with more medals. We won 13 in total vs. only 8 for North Carloina. Alaina, Camauri and Breyona ALL winning gold in the weapons’ division. These three are the “Reigning State Champions for the State of Virginia” in weapons. Plus Alaina is the “Reigning State Champion for the State of VA” in the forms division.

Next tournament is “The King George Isshin Ryu Karate Open” in King George, VA. Taking place on Saturday 4/27/2019.
